Seniors who
are interested in visiting a school/college are encouraged to do so
after school, on Saturday and during vacation time. Since this is sometimes
impossible, we will permit up to three one-day excused absences to visit
schools/colleges under the following conditions:
1. An appointment
must have been made with the school’s admissions office.
2. The student is responsible for all school work missed.
3. The visit must have the prior approval of the guidance office. This
approval will not be given unless the student has made all arrangements
with the guidance office at least one day prior to date of appointment.
This means the proper form must be signed and completed by the deadline.
This form is found in the guidance office. The guidance office will
not accept telephone calls.
4. Upon approval of visitation, a form will be given to the student
to be signed by the visitation site and returned to the guidance office.
If not returned, an unexcused absence will be given.
5. Second semester visitations for schools/colleges and universities
will not be honored after closing dates for admissions unless the student
has already applied, and needs to make a visit.
6. If more than four students request visitation on the same day, the
guidance office can limit the number that can attend. It will be based
on the chronological order of request forms being submitted for approval.
7. Juniors may make post-secondary visitations the second semester if
the student’s parent makes a prior appointment with the post-secondary
institution and contacts the high school guidance office TWO days prior
to the day of visitation.
Scholastic
Aptitude Test (SAT) - The SAT, a three-hour exam consisting
of verbal and mathematical sections, is administered on seven national
testing dates (October through June) at established test centers. Verbal
and math scores are reported on a scale from 200-800, with scores in
the 450-500 range considered average.
SAT
II: Subject Tests (formally known as the Achievement Tests)
- Many highly selective colleges require applicants to take as many
as three of the 18 one-hour SAT II Subject Tests for admission or placement
purposes. These curricular-based exams are administered on five of the
six national testing dates on which the SAT is administered at established
testing centers. Students may take from one to three Subject Tests on
a single testing date, but they cannot take them on the same date they
are taking the SAT. Subject Tests, if required, should be taken as soon
after the completion of the related course as possible. Scores are reported
on a scale from 200-800 as are the SAT scores. American College Testing
Program (ACT) - The ACT is administered on five national testing dates
annually (October through June) at established testing centers. Circleville
High School is a testing center in June and October. Presently it is
a three-hour exam consisting of four curricular-based tests: English;
Mathematics; Reading; and Science Reasoning. Scores for each test and
an ACT composite score are reported on a scale of 1-36, with scores
in the 18-21 range considered average.
